My sister’s getting a divorce. I’m not sad about it…I don’t believe she should’ve married the guy in the 1st place…but that’s just me.

She called me from Cali and told me as a matter-of-factly-she was getting divorced. Her mind was made up, and that was that. Okkkkk, then.

She then on went on to say that she had even signed up at a online dating service.

*crickets*

Excuse Me?!

She reiterated that she had signed up at a well known website for black people, and she was now wading thru her responses.

*silence*

Her revelation was shocking because she just put it out there that she was now on an online dating site. Also, under normal circumstances-she’d talk about people who roll like that.

Me? I’ve been doing it for years intermittently and hadn’t told a soul. Probably cuz nothing ever panned out.

Unless of course, you count the Nigerian Scammers who believe it is their duty and right to separate me and other Americans from our pennies. My sister, is also the last person whom I thought would take part in online dating.

She’s such a social butterfly, I’m not. But here she is online looking for a new love. smh

http://chipchick.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/02/1993699304_1999998198_internetlove337.jpg

So the question is…is love right there at the click of a mouse? I can’t say it is for me. But I have met SEVERAL couples who met each other online, and the relationships have lasted.

Why do I go this route?

  • It’s convenient. As in fingertip convenient.

  • nice distraction.

  • For those who are shy, it’s easier breaking the ice.

  • I have met GREAT people who are now friends!

  • I don’t have to go to singles mingle, grocery stores, church, gas station etc in hopes of meeting someone.

  • Great alternatives for us homebodies.

  • Not at risk of 2nd hand smoke-in those smokey bars. No drunks cussing me out cuz I won’t dance with him.

  • It works according to my 17y/o son, who met his girl online at CrushSpot. That’s got to count for something, right??!

Ain't That A...?!, And You Can Quote Me On This..., Death, Oh No U Didn't?!, Uh-uh This Ain't Funny!, What In The...?!
I’m too through.
This little peanut head boy, Orlando Brown of “That’s So Raven” fame, disappeared for 24hrs and contacted no one.
art.orlando.brown.gi.jpg

That’s not too bad seeing as how the boy isn’t really a boy-but is in fact 20yrs old.
And well, we know how 20yrs olds act.
*shrugging shoulders*
He disappeared for 24 hrs, because he needed to be alone, and regroup.
He said:
“It was wrong for me not to inform my manager … about my whereabouts, especially when I am usually so routine and big on communication, but I felt a little lost and needed to get away, …”
Hey, that happens to the best of us.
I feel him on that.
What disturbed me was his reason for disappearing and scaring the crap out of everyone….read on:

“…after an incident at a nightclub where he had expected to open for the headlining act. “I felt that that was my chance to prove that I was talented and I was really excited,” Brown said. “When I was told that I couldn’t perform… that really hurt. … It got a bit overwhelming and I needed to be alone.”

SMH

Can you say “spoiled brat?!” He better be glad I’M NOT HIS MAMA.

Who does he THINK he is?? Because HE COULDN’T SHOW OFF HIS TALENT (which is subjective), he felt he had the right to act like the child HE DIDN’T THINK HE WAS?? I mean I’m glad the boy is ok, but to know this brat had a tantrum at 20…whatever.

Yep…he’s a diva in the making.

Question-This kid is working in conjunction works with Raven Symone, and Disney, right?

Doesn’t he make enough money to be able to showcase HIMSELF??

*I guess that’s two questions*

I know folks out here in Detroit, who put their little nickels together, and put together shows all the time…and they’re common folks.

Is it really that serious?

Get over yourself, YOU SPOILED BRAT!

The only reason your story hit mainstream (CNN), is because of the ridiculous reason behind your disappearance! Now, when a black person disappears for real, mainstream media will CONTINUE to discount us ant not take us serious…your episode sure didn’t help us.

GROW UP, KID!

I first reported this news, here.
This was shocking to me bcuz 1) I didn’t know Corinne was married, and 2) I was surprised by the way her husband, Jason died (drug overdose).
I can’t imagine experiencing this. They were such a young couple, and for it to end so soon-has to be nothing less than shocking.
God bless Corinne and her family during such a tragic time.

Geezzz, that’s messed up! I didn’t know songbird Corinne was married. I hate that I found out she was married this way…smh for those unfamiliar w/Corinne Bailey…she hails from Europe, is 29yrs old but looks and sounds 17. Her CD, Corinne Bailey Rae, is STILL hot like fire.

Chile, just throw her name up in youtube and watch her go…she’s awesome. It seems Europe’s drug epidemic is just as bad as the United States.
Sadness.
Thoughts and prayers are with Corinne and her loved ones. More surrounding his death, here.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (AP) — Vicki Van Meter, who made headlines in the 1990s for piloting a plane across the United States at age 11 and from the U.S. to Europe at age 12, died in an apparent suicide. She was 26.

art.van.meter.ap.jpg

Vicki Van Meter’s mother said “she had more guts than any of us could ever imagine.”

Van Meter died Saturday of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Crawford County coroner said. Her body was found in her Meadville, Pennsylvania, home on Sunday.

Her brother said she battled depression, but her family thought she had been dealing with her problems.

“She was unhappy, but it was hard for her to open up about that, and we all thought that she was coping,” Daniel Van Meter said. He said she had opposed taking medication.

Van Meter was celebrated in 1993 and 1994 when she made her cross-country and trans-Atlantic flights accompanied by only a flight instructor. Her instructors said she was at the controls during the entirety of both trips.

“If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything,” Van Meter said before her second trip. In her teens, she said she hoped to become an astronaut when she grew up.

Later she earned a degree in criminal justice from Edinboro University in Pennsylvania and spent two years with the Peace Corps in the former Soviet republic of Moldova. She recently worked as an investigator for an insurance company.

Her mother, Corinne Van Meter, said her daughter had begun applying to graduate schools and wanted to study psychology.

Van Meter was a sixth-grader in September 1993 when she flew from Augusta, Maine, to San Diego over five days. She had to fight strong headwinds and turbulence that bounced her single-engine Cessna 172 and made her sick.

At the time, she was believed to be the youngest girl to fly across the United States. That record was broken by a 9-year-old in 1994.

Also in 1994, Van Meter flew from Augusta to Glasgow, Scotland, and was credited with being the youngest girl to make a trans-Atlantic flight. She battled dizziness brought on by high altitude and declared upon landing: “I always thought it would be real hard, and it was.”

The child pilot phenomenon ended in 1996, when 7-year-old Jessica Dubroff, her father and the instructor supervising the flight were killed in a crash in Wyoming while Jessica was trying to become the youngest person to fly across the country. Congress quickly passed a bill banning record-setting attempts by unlicensed pilots.

“I was really rooting for her, but I guess reality says accidents do happen,” Van Meter, then 14, said at the time of the crash. “It’s unfortunate it had to happen to someone so brave, someone trying to fulfill her dreams.”

Corinne Van Meter said her daughter “led a full and interesting life. … She had more guts than any of us could ever imagine.”

Van Meter’s funeral will be held in Meadville, but arrangements have not been finalized.

Now, I’ve never heard of Vicki Van Meter, but I’m sad to hear such news anyway.  26, mmm mm mmmm…I know the 20’s are hell, but I guess some people feel the only way to escape the pain is to stop living.  I’ve definitely been on that end of the spectrum. It’s so sad to  read about people killing themselves (esp. youth) because they leave so many unanswered questions. If you like myself have never heard of Van Meter, but would like to know more about her, u can check out her book:

I’m sure it’s available at a library near you, or just go to Amazon.com

Tortured Baby Dies, Sitter Confesses

Video: Baby Sitter Charged In Baby Torture Case

Six-week-old Diana Nelson succumbed to her wounds Thursday at 2:22 p.m., according to a hospital spokesman. Nelson had been on life support for days, having been beaten, burned and drugged, according to police.Bogalusa police said they arrested a baby sitter, Amy Leighann Thomas, 22, Wednesday.

NEW ORLEANS NEWS: Baby Torture Suspect

Officers said Thomas confessed to abusing the child before she died.Watch: Baby Sitter Charged

Police said Thursday that Thomas’ charges were going to be upgraded to murder.“I had no idea what was going on,” said Nelson’s uncle Allen Daigle, who was present when EMTs took Nelson. “All I seen was the pale face and the blue lips. I didn’t see the burn marks until I went to the police station.”

Investigators said they examined Nelson at the hospital and found evidence of severe child abuse.Bogalusa Police Department Sgt. Darrell Darden said the child had suffered blunt force trauma and head injuries consistent with being beaten by a fist, and that Nelson had a skull fracture.

He said Nelson had also been burned repeatedly, and had been forced to swallow some kind of antidepressant like Xanax.Investigators said the burn marks were similar to curling iron burns.

“It’s a terrible situation,” Darden said. “What’s best for the baby at this time is to find who done this and make them pay.”

Nelson’s 14-month-old sister was taken into protective custody pending the outcome of an investigation. source

Rushing a patient’s death?? What was he getting out of it??

SAN LUIS OBISPO, California (CNN) — A respected California transplant doctor faces charges he hastened a comatose man’s death to retrieve his organs — a far-reaching case that could impact the nation’s organ donation industry.

Ruben Navarro had suffered from a debilitating nerve disease since he was 9. He died at the age of 25.

Dr. Hootan Roozrokh, 34, is accused of ordering excessive doses of drugs to expedite the death of Ruben Navarro, a 25-year-old man who had suffered from a debilitating nerve disease since he was 9, according to the criminal complaint.

On February 3, 2006, Dr. Roozrokh hurried from San Francisco to the Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center with a transplant team after receiving word Navarro would be a donor.

In a pretrial hearing last week, Dr. Laura Lubarsky, a critical-care specialist, testified she would not have ordered morphine or the sedative Ativan as Roozrokh allegedly did. She said she was called into the operating room to monitor Navarro after he was taken off life support and to pronounce him dead.

Lubarsky told the court she heard Roozrokh order a nurse to give Navarro more “candy,” meaning additional drugs.

Prosecutors have charged Roozrokh with three felony counts, including one charge of “dependent adult abuse” for allegedly administering excessive amounts of a drug cocktail that included morphine and Ativan, both of which are used to comfort dying patients. Roozrokh is also accused of injecting Betadine, a topical antiseptic, into Navarro’s feeding tube.

If convicted, Roozrokh — a Stanford-trained doctor — could face up to eight years in prison. He has pleaded not guilty.

“Dr. Roozrokh did not intend to hasten Mr. Navarro’s death and, in fact, did not hasten his death,” defense attorney Gerald Schwartzbach told CNN before a gag order was imposed in the case.

Navarro’s mother, Rosa Navarro, disagrees. Her son, she says, “died without respect and dignity.”

“I loved that boy,” she told CNN. “He was the world to me and nothing can make me happy, except him.”

Some in the transplant profession say Dr. Roozrokh should not have even been in the operating room while the patient was still alive.

“The standard of practice is for the transplant surgeon to be outside the operating room until death has been declared,” said Thomas Mone, president of the Association of Organ Procurement Organization. “The unfortunate error in this case was the transplant surgeon being in the room and that’s highly, highly unusual.”

Organ donation groups are keeping a close eye on the courtroom proceedings. Mone said the case had forced his staff and fellow transplant colleagues to “review the recovery procedures with our transplant programs when we start a case — every single case.”

A written statement from the American Society of Transplant Surgeons said it doesn’t have enough facts about the Roozrokh case, but the group is concerned about its possible effects.

“The sensationalism of this case in the media will unfortunately result in a decrease in organ donation. This, in turn, will deprive patients waiting for life-saving organ transplantation their opportunity for life,” said Goran Klintmalm, the president of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons.

“If Dr. Roozrokh is guilty, it would represent a gross aberration in the organ donation process, not the gift of life we are all trying to provide.”

At least one former patient has spoken out in support of Roozrokh.

“He performed surgery on me and literally saved my life,” Joe Quiroz told CNN-affiliate KCOY in an August interview. “I have known Dr. Roozrokh to be a man of great, great compassion.”

The preliminary hearing continues this week. Rosa Navarro has filed lawsuits against the doctor and the hospital. The hospital settled with her, but denied liability. Her suit against Roozrokh is pending.

In a written statement, the hospital said it had “been cooperative with all regulating agencies, law enforcement and legal representatives. We have entered into this settlement with Mrs. Navarro in an effort to put this incident behind us and to hopefully allow her healing process to begin.”

Whatever occurred in the operating room that February day, there would be no successful transplant. By the time Navarro died, some eight hours later, his organs were no longer viable because too much time had passed.

She is just McNasty!!

Boy, oh boy-Do I hear keyboards clacking as writers are working FEVERISHLY to create a manuscript to pass along to LIFETIME MOVIE CHANNEL! This crime is so crazy, it has to be true.

There is:

Shawna Nelson-convicted killer; jealous, delusional & JILTED lover/baby mama

Ignacio Garraus-Shawna’s reported lover; spurned Shawna; baby daddy

Michelle Moore-Shawna’s friend, accessory and ALSO reported lover

Ken Nelson-Shawna’s HUSBAND

and Heather Garraus-Shawna’s object of hate; Ignacio’s WIFE; murdered in cold blood.

****

Life w/out parole.

She shoots two to the head, and yet lives-at taxpayers expense mind you, and Heather, who’s only crime was being married to a two-timing loser, is rotting. Shawna gets 3 hots and a cot…guaranteed. After a while of being incarcerated, she’ll assimilate herself to her environment and she’ll be fine. As a matter of fact, she’ll possibly get “street cred” for being so out cold and shooting Heather-outside (probably in BROAD DAYLIGHT) in plain sight in such a vicious and gangsta manner. I have no other words…what say you, family?

smh

“You carried out this plan with great planning and deliberation,” Judge Roger Klein told Shawna Nelson. “You deserve to serve every day of the sentence I will impose.”

Nelson showed little emotion as the verdict was read and declined the judge’s invitation to make a statement before he handed down the sentence. Her attorneys said they will appeal her conviction.

Nelson killed Heather Garraus, 37, on January 23, 2007. A Weld County sheriff’s dispatcher at the time, Nelson had a long affair with Garraus’ husband, Ignacio, who was a Greeley police officer.

They had a son together, but Ignacio Garraus broke off the relationship a month before the shooting.

Witnesses said the masked killer, dressed in black, confronted Garraus in the parking lot of the Greeley credit union where Garraus worked and told her, “You ruined my life. Get on the ground.”

Garraus replied, “OK, OK,” and knelt down, and the woman in black fired two shots from a gun and fled, the witnesses said.

Nelson contended she was on her way to a liquor store at the time.

The trial was moved to nearby Fort Collins in Larimer County because of pretrial publicity and the possibility that jurors might know the witnesses.

Shawna Nelson’s one-time best friend, Michelle Moore, pleaded guilty last week to being an accessory to crime after prosecutors accused her of helping plan the slaying.

Moore testified during Nelson’s trial that she and Nelson had discussed how to kill Heather Garraus.

The defense tried to discredit Moore by portraying her as Shawna Nelson’s lover. Shawna Nelson testified she and Moore had a romantic relationship, but Moore denied it.

Nelson’s husband, Ken Nelson, who was a Weld County sheriff’s deputy at the time of the shooting, has been charged with evidence tampering for allegedly handling the gun that police believe was used to kill Heather Garraus.

Both Ignacio Garraus and Ken Nelson have resigned from their law enforcement jobs. (source)

Why Are Kids Killing Their Parents?!
Much to my chagrin…this is the 2nd time I’ve written about a child killing their parents and siblings, in about as many days. Fortunately in this case, dad-identified as Terry Caffey was able to crawl in his own blood, to his neighbor’s house and get help-after being shot in the head 4 x’s. His wife and two boys, ages 8 & 13, were not so fortunate. Who’s behind this horrific crime? Their 16y/o daughter, along with 3 adult village idiots:

Police: Teen romance may have led to killings
Suspects Bobbi Gale Johnson, Charles Allen Wade and Charlie James Wilkinson. (Rains County Sheriff’s Dept.)
Now…the ages of the adult suspects are, 18 (bobbi), 20 (Charles Allen), and 10 (Charlie James). Tell me, what could a 16yr old say to convince THREE ADULTS to kill a family? Her family? A promise of financial gain perhaps??? Better yet, why did they fall for the okey doke? I love America…eventhough this heffa took part in slaying her family she still has civil rights…her name will not be revealed due to her age. All of this becuz she was forced to break up with a MAN she had no bizness dating in the 1st place!
