With Xmas…comes Xmas Shopping smh

I refuse to get caught up in the Xmas shopping madness.  If money as a gift seems impersonal, imagine what GETTING NO GIFT would seem!  Everyone who knows Bria-KNOWS I’m not tussling and fussing witchu over a bargain.  it’s just not that serious! lol  However, I WILL give a loved one a gift card, and then they can do the tusslin’ and fussin on their own time! lol

Speaking of gifts, with the electronic gadgets and widgets such as Tivo, DVR, Satellite, GPS, etc…I’ve learned of a NEW gadget that is ingenius if you ask me!  It’s called the Slingbox, and this technology is a TV-addict’s dream!  U set up a box atop of your TV, follow the instructions and you can "sling" your home TV programming to your cellphone, your laptop-you can watch your TV programming ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD! It streams your home television programming utilizing the internet.

If you’re in a part of the world that doesn’t broadcast your fave TV shows, don’t trip…log onto your laptop and voila…Slingbox is in full effect.  If you don’t quite understand WHAT THE HELL I’m talking about, click the link above, and then look for the words "click here to view the product tour…" and watch the Slingbox demo.  The best part of having Slingbox?  You pay a one-time charge, approx $300, and you’re good to go.  If I watched TV that much-I’d DEFINITELY gift myself with a Slingbox!   I swear, what will they think of next??lol

Living in America just keeps getting better…

Posted by User ImageBria on Nov 22, 2008 in General, Important Info

I have never been so saddened to be an American as I am today.  While we do have Obama as president-elect, Americans are still struggling to pay their bills.  I work for a major telecommunications company, and the morale is LOWWWWWW.   The managers never know if they’re going to have a job or not when they come in.

This is appalling.  The Big 3 are no longer "Big" and who the hell knows how long there’ll be 3?  My economics professor who is from Africa has said,  if a corporation’s self-interests doesn’t serve the community, they will destroy themselves.  This has been proven in abundance in the U.S.A.

A classmate classmate of mine’s has been with Chrysler for almost 20yrs and was SHOCKED at an email he received.  it was from Chrysler offering a small buyout and it strongly advised he accept it (he did).  At the onset, naturally he was shocked, insulted…but since then he’s now in the interviewing process to become plant manager and he’s set to make twice what he made with Chrysler.  He’s one of many who submitted their   logistics resumes and is now being sought.  Many people are finding out that leaving the Big 3 has turned out to be a blessing in disguise.  Yes, change is scary…but how can our life get better, if we refuse to adapt?  I want to find out what’s in the pot at the end of MY rainbow!

And speaking of insurance…

Posted by User ImageBria on Nov 5, 2008 in Death, Family, In My Own Backyard

I know we’ve been bombarded and concerned with health insurance, but that has lead me to think about  life insurance. It was a big deal when I stopped smoking cigarettes 8 yrs ago, because there was a drop in my life insurance premium.  And then it was offered thru my job-which is currently valued in excess of $200,000+,

But I believe I should call and get another life insurance quote because should something happen to my employment status…ie fired/laid off-I’ll have no more life insurance benefits.

I appreciate the fact, that I am able to speak up front about my demise with my children.  My daughter knows where the paperwork is, and the number to call-for the insurance benefit-which is well.  However I’m going to go online and do some research cuz it seems that when u age, i mean i’m only 40, u get penalized for having made it past the 16-24 yr age group…age ur most likely to get KILLED. dang!

but, as the saying goes, "it’s better to have insurance and not need it, then to need insurance and not have it."

Michigan’s cold weather brings..

Posted by User ImageBria on Nov 5, 2008 in Ain't That A...?!, In My Own Backyard

I was listening to a commercial today on the radio, and the concept of the commercial was pesticides.  When it gets cold in MI ‘pest’ or pets (depending on who ur talking to) seek solace in ur home until the weather thaws out.  I remember when I lived in a particularly rural area…local mice took a vote and decide to chill in my crib.  I called the leasing office and the mainteance people were nonchalant and said, ‘it’s cold out.’  I said, ‘I don’t give a da*n, mice are not on my lease!’  Needless to say, I had to breakdown and get a cat!  That was the end of my rodent in the winter problem.

Which brings me to today. sigh  It’s getting cold again, so I guess that means I’m going have to relent and get another cat,  a brown recluse spider trap , sealing up cracks, crevices and gawd only knows what else lol

This is Why I have to leave MI

Posted by User ImageBria on Nov 3, 2008 in Life In The U.S.A

Why did I need an electric blanket, last week and this week I’m outside without a coat?  I couldn’t take my son to the amusement park, Cedar Point cuz it was too cold.  And it was too.  It was sooo cold, but I know there are those who will go to Cedar Point come hell or high water…we ain’t one of them.

Tomorrow or Wednesday, it’s supposed to be in the 70’s.  Can I please get some consistency? It’s darker earlier now, and it’s feeling like summer, to me.  I don’t know…I’m thinking about the upcoming winter.  We had enough snow last year to last us…I hope God is lenient this year.

I don’t care-Aruba’s sounding realllly good right about now.

House N2 A Home…

Posted by User ImageBria on Nov 3, 2008 in General, Life

Ok, so a couple of days ago I spoke about committing to my apt-here I hadn’t given my home that ‘at home’ feeling by decorating, cuz honestly I wasn’t sure how long I was goin to be living there.

Well, I’ve been here two years with most likely a third year coming in ‘09, so I have to commit.  I took an inventory of the tools I have and it’s not bad…not really. I have several hammers, packs of nails, I even have air tools a drill and stapler that I have-I like using those cuz I can feel the fan on the sides blowing air on me.  I like that.  This week I’m going to buy a couple of pics to get the ball rolling, and then I’m going to go shopping for my bedroom suite.  My bedroom is sooo out of order.  I can’t let a man in here…well, maybe he’d take pity on me and buy me a bedroom suite! lol  worth a shot!  ;)

Universal health care??

Posted by User ImageBria on Nov 2, 2008 in Life in Politics

I’m wondering if Obama/McCain becomes president, how soon will it be before Universal Healthcare is implemented?  I’m not sure how it will be implemented- I mean will it be one kind of insurance from the federal government or will it be doled out by the state-for example will North Carolina, have its own  North Carolina health insurance for the uninsured-or will all 51 states (including D.C.) have the same insurance?

I wonder how soon will the insurance overhaul take place after the new president is installed?  I have so many questions about this issue.  It’s time to stop talking about it and start being about it.

WHO IS GOING TO FINALLY STEP UP AND INSURE THE UNINSURED??
