I’ve tried to listen on many occasions to the Tom Joyner Morning Show (TJMS)…but for some reason, I just can’t get into the show. The few times I have listened, the points of interest that held my attention were the scholarships awarded and the giving away of $$$ to people who deserved it. I truly admire Joyner’s philanthropic efforts.
Having said that, I was saddened to read Tavis Smiley quit the TJMS as a featured guest- not due to conflicting interests, money disagreements, or creative differences.
According to Tom Joyner, Tavis Smiley quit the show bcuz he was not receiving love from the black community.

sigh I don’t know what has transpired between listeners and Tavis Smiley, but if that fact is true-then it’s downright shameful.
Click here to read the open letter Tom Joyner has written to the black community/TJMS listeners. That move by Tom Joyner was brave, risky and the right thing to do.
Here’s wishing Tavis Smiley the best in all that he strives to do.

Hey there Bria, I apologize now for the rant you are about to read!!
Wow, this is some news. I just read it on another blog. Let me just say, I have never been a fan on Tom Joyner and after reading his open letter to black people I really am not a fan! First of all I do not appreciate him talking to black America like he is our daddy! If you want to hold Tavis’ hand, fine, but don’t think for one minute that because you say so I need to change my mind or do anything differently than I plan to.
If Tavis feels that he needs to quit because he is not feeling the "Love" from black people than maybe he should quit! In his line of work it is not feasible to think that what you say is law, you have to learn to roll with the punches and learn to agree to disagree. If Tavis has so much love for black people than maybe he should realize that we can think and make decisions for ourselves, maybe he should realize that Tavis’ word is NOT law! Tavis needs to stop trying to throw his personal issues off on us. If Barack didn’t come to your state of the union address than you just keep it moving! But by making it personal and CONTINUING to cry and moan about it is how he started loosing all that so called love.
And now because you can’t take the heat you want to run out of the kitchen, well than get the heck on! Now don’t get me wrong I was a big Tavis supporter and loved what he stood for I stopped watching BET when he left! But I feel that he has gone too far in his behavior recently. Why can’t we just agree to disagree and keep it moving?
But back to Tom, if you feel that Tavis needs a hug and a kiss than you should give it to him but I thought Tavis was a grown- behind man! If you are leaving your job because we don’t love you enough than you look better gone! Life isn’t fair and it’s not easy. if Jesus had quit His job where would we be now! but I for one don’t intend to be chastised by anyone!
and Tavis’ "clarification" was a slap in Tom’s face.
Ok Bria, I’m done, It’s all love baby!!

That is really sad. I wish we were more supportive of each other.
