I’m not trying to be Bessie Stringfield but I’m gone learn how to ride a bike (i.e, motorcycle). Perhaps it’s bcuz I’m turning 40 next month, or maybe it’s bcuz my children are young adults-and depend on me less, or maybe it’s bcuz I want to conquer an old fear (of being vulnerable on a motorcycle)…shoot, maybe it’s a combo of all of the above-but one thing’s for certain:
I’m gone learn how to ride a motorcycle!!
***Bessie Stringfield made 8 long-distance, solo trips across the U.S.A. in the 1930’s & ’40’s… do you know how dangerous that was for a woman, let alone a BLACK WOMAN?! Bessie was truly a “G.”***
As a matter of fact, although I was shaking, I called this morning and registered for my Motorcycle Endorsement class! Class starts on May 2nd!! Oh my goodness, i’m excited! Of course I’ll keep you all posted!!
Pics of Bessie Stringfield with and on her true love, her bike. Bessie received her 1st bike at the age of 16, and rode until she couldn’t anymore. She was an ardent Harley-Davidson fan, and broke down barriers for black people and women. For more information on Bessie Stringfield, click on the link above.

I hope to be like Kia (below) from Get Your Own Bike, and purchase my own bike! The caveat is, in Michigan you can only ride maybe 3 mos out of the year due to the weather

I’ll keep errrybody posted on my progress!!
